Recently Completed

Eduroam goes live!  Traveling to academic institutions domestically or abroad?  Look for the Eduroam network and log in with your Bryn Mawr credentials for secure wireless Internet access.  Swarthmore participates as well, so even if you’re staying close to home, it’s now possible to log into the Eduroam network for wireless access on Swarthmore’s campus.  Read more on the IS Blog.

IS has made numerous wireless upgrades in most campus buildings and every dorm.  This work has increased wireless quality and coverage, nearly doubling the number of access points in the dorms.

We’ve upgraded the wired network in Park, Cambrian Row, and other areas around campus – with more improvements to come.

Student Financial Services has recently completed a project with IS support to improve student access to financial aid data.

Many computers across campus have been upgraded to Windows 7 in preparation for Windows XP support ending before fall.

Coming up Soon

We look forward to implementing – and using – the College’s new voice mail system, due this week, featuring voice activated menus, email alerts for new messages, and a web-based interface for accessing your voice mailbox.

The libraries are buzzing with staff anxious to welcome new students at September’s re-vamped Info Fair.  Join us on August 30th in Canaday for fun and informative booths from our most popular services for students, and snap an Athena-gram!  (“Like” Bryn Mawr College Libraries on Facebook for event news and highlights).

The wired network in Canaday will soon be upgraded, significantly improving lab performance.

IS is currently working on a project to upgrade and diversify the College’s connection to the Internet.  We will be adding a secondary high-speed fiber optic link to the Internet and completing an additional high-speed fiber optic loop between the three schools.

Atomic Learning – a new initiative from Staff Education and the Help Desk – will provide faculty, staff and students with access to hundreds of tutorial videos that cover some of today’s most popular technologies.

A minor webmail upgrade scheduled for August will fix some bugs and improve all-around email performance.

Take a look at our course offerings for staff on the Staff Education website as you prepare for the third annual tech skills assessment, to be held in October.   This year’s assessment will cover the most recent versions of Microsoft Word and Excel.

Looking for subject-specific research help?  The Tri-College libraries will launch new-and-improved Subject Guides this fall – a great way to connect with a librarian subject specialist and to help yourself to some great starting points for your library research.
