Throughout the storm and the aftermath, most services (including email, Virtual Bryn Mawr, etc.) continued uninterrupted. Moodle and blogs did have several hours of service interruption due to a power irregularity when switching from regular to generator power in the Canady server room, and were fully restored just a few moments ago. Several other services (such as voicemail, and some library services) experienced brief outages last evening for the same reason.
We did suffer significant damage to our primary Internet feed in two locations– the tree currently down near Morris Ave and New Gulph Road which has been referenced by Public Safety also damaged our fiberoptic cable. At this time, we continue to have connection to the outside world via our link to Swarthmore College; this is possible because of an ongoing project to create a more robust connection to the outside world and would not have been possible several months ago. At this time there is no time estimate for the repair of the primary feed, as it depend on both PECO and our fiberoptic vendor, but we expect little to no service interruption.
While most services have been operational, off-campus community members should recall that students have been without power and network access since last evening and have potentially also been without complete access to cellular data services. Digital communications may not have been received as immediately as you might normally expect.
Please recall that as students have been instructed to stay in their dorms, Canaday Library and in turn the Help Desk will not reopen until tomorrow. However, please report any problems you may have and your message will be returned as soon as possible.
