Changes in Information Services: Guild Labs & the Help Desk

Posted July 23rd, 2009 at 8:52 am.

Dear Members of the Bryn Mawr College Community,

This is the third message from Information Services this summer detailing significant changes to our services and staffing patterns for the 2009-2010 academic year.

This message details changes to Information Services resources and staffing affecting:

  • Anyone who uses the Help Desk
  • Anyone who uses Computing Labs on campus

Help Desk Relocating to Canaday First Floor

By the end of this summer, the Help Desk will move to Canaday’s first floor.  Walk-up help will be available at the marble desk immediately to the right when you enter the building.  Telephone and email help will remain unchanged.

Additions to Help Desk Professional Staff

In response to community requests for increased consistency and quicker problem resolution at the Help Desk, Information Services has increased the Help Desk professional staff, with the aim of ensuring that more issues are resolved at the first point of contact.   We would like to take this opportunity to officially introduce Jeremy Gonyea who joined IS this past January. Many community members have already received assistance from Jeremy as he has been coming up to speed with Bryn Mawr systems; if you haven’t had the opportunity to speak with him, stop by the new Canaday Help Desk location in the fall and introduce yourself.

Guild Computer Lab Machines Move to Canaday

In late summer, all of the lab computers will be removed from Guild and many will be relocated to Canaday’s first floor and several will be added to the Lusty Cup on the ground floor. We will be deploying fewer machines as we continue to find ways to reduce the computer footprint throughout the campus.  Guild will remain open as usual for 24/7 student OneCard entry, with printing and wireless network access for laptops.

At the beginning of the summer, the New Media Lab in Guild moved to the A floor of Canaday, next to the computer lab and across from the Lusty Cup.  The Canaday Media Lab is equipped with several multimedia workstations with digital image, audio and video editing software and hardware.  The lab remains open for 24/7 student OneCard access, along with the A floor lab and Lusty Cup in Canaday.
