How We Spent Our Summer Vacation

At the start of each new academic year we like to highlight – particularly for returning community members – what’s new and different since we saw you last. Summer is an especially busy time for project work in Library & Information Technology Services, and we’re excited to share some of the things we’ve been working on:

Canaday 315

We renovated Canaday 315 to create a new technology-enhanced instruction space available to all academic programs: Launch

With the support of a one-year Foundations planning grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities, the seven women’s colleges once known as the “Seven Sisters” launched College Women: Documenting the History of Women in Higher Education

Copiers in labs

We replaced printers throughout the libraries and in the GSSWSR lab with Canons machines that allow students to scan, copy and print using their OneCard:

FY15 Annual Report

We published our annual report for fiscal year 2015:

HR/Payroll Split Completed

We completed a year-long project to implement the HR/Payroll split. These major back-end changes to PeopleSoft enabled the College to move to a payroll product with with increased functionality for the Payroll Office and community members.

We replaced our former online learning tool, Atomic Learning, with, a leading online learning tool that offers thousands of high-quality video courses in software, business, and creative skills:

Moodle and WordPress Upgrades

We made key updates to our Moodle learning management system and WordPress blogs:

New Services from Research & Instruction Librarians

We developed two new services especially geared to first-year students or students who need to gain library research skills: Online Tutorials are now available on topics like Tripod and finding books and articles, and we’re available to direct a Scavenger Hunt that orients first-year students to features and services of Canaday and Carpenter libraries. Routine System Maintenance Schedule Announced

We published a new routine system maintenance policy and 2015 schedule and have executed six planned maintenance cycles so far:

Securing the Human Launch

We’ve been preparing for a campus-wide launch of Securing the Human, a video-based Information Security Awareness training program. Training will be available this fall.

Staffing Changes for Teaching, Learning and Research Services

We reconfigured two of the teams providing teaching, learning and research services and enhanced support for assessment endeavors and learning spaces:

Wireless Updates & Upgrades

We made numerous updates and upgrades to our wireless network across campus for improved performance.
