Resolved: Network Outage – Gateway Building

Posted June 30th, 2016 at 9:45 am.

Updated 6/30 9:45 a.m.: The fiber cable providing network service to the Gateway building has been repaired. Network access has been restored.

This afternoon just before 2pm we discovered that the fiber cable providing network service to the Gateway building had sustained damage.  At this time there is no wired or wireless network service in Gateway which means that computers in Gateway will be unable to reach either Bryn Mawr servers and services or any Internet sites.  Telephone service is operational.  Our wiring vendor is currently assessing the damage and working to restore service as soon as possible.

Because of the damage to the underground cabling, we expect Gateway to be without service for the remainder of the afternoon into the evening; we hope to have this resolved by morning, but there is no guarantee.  The vendor hopes to enact a short term fix today, but running entirely new cabling may be required.  We will provide updates as more information is available.
