New Apps Available in Office 365

Beginning August 15th you will see a number of new apps available in Office 365.

Support

The apps you have already been using will remain supported, and we will be adding a few more to our support portfolio. Other apps will simply be available for use. For more information, see https://techdocs.blogs.brynmawr.edu/6634. If you’re interested in learning more, a good place to start is https://support.office.com/.

What about Groups?

Office 365 Groups (a feature that allows ad hoc shared email and calendar, as well as being necessary for Teams and Planner) remains a by-request service. Please contact the Help Desk to request a group. We hope to open up self-service group creation in the future.

Why Now?

When LITS first launched Office 365 in May 2016, we made available a limited set of apps (Outlook, OneDrive, etc.) The reason for this was that we wanted to learn best how to support the apps that are most critical to our community before introducing a full suite of services at varying degrees of maturity.

With community feedback, we’ve determined that the best course forward is to make available all Office 365 apps. This will make the most of the College’s decision to move to Office 365 by allowing community members to use Microsoft’s diverse suite of cloud applications.

A New Kind of Service

Please remember that varying degrees of maturity means that some apps are very new and/or developing rapidly. The apps themselves will appear and disappear, and LITS staff don’t maintain expertise in all of them. Save your work and follow the Office blog at https://blogs.office.com for up-to-the-minute information from Microsoft.
