2/20 Tech Talk: Using Google Earth as a Research Tool: Digital Survey, Mapping, and Visibility

Posted February 19th, 2018 at 10:02 am.

Conduct a survey from your desk! Andrea Samz-Pustol, a graduate student in the Classical & Near Eastern Archaeology department, discusses how to conduct a digital survey of an archaeological site using Google Earth, a free and user friendly program. Using her research on land transport of stone for ancient Greek colonies in Sicily, she will show how to locate sites, map roads, conduct viewshed analysis, and organize information in Google Earth. Google Earth is a helpful tool that allows users to learn more about an archaeological site, map road systems, and create your own maps, but its features are broadly applicable to many types of projects and disciplines.
