Coming Fall Semester! Multi-factor Authentication for Students

Posted August 24th, 2018 at 11:07 am.

What is Multi-factor Authentication (MFA) and How Does it Work?

Multi-factor authentication protects against account hijacking by providing an extra layer of security beyond your username and password. The idea is to make sure the person accessing the account is actually you.

Once enrolled in Duo, you will be required to authenticate twice to many of the College’s online services (like Office 365 and BIONIC). First you’ll use your username and password as you always have, then you’ll use a second factor of your choice such as a push notification to your smartphone or a telephone call.

When Will This Happen?

  • Mid-September 2018: Faculty, many staff, and some student employees
  • November 2018 – January 2019: All remaining Bryn Mawr College students, faculty, and staff

Watch for more information from LITS. You’ll receive additional instructions before you’re enrolled!

How can I learn more?

Duo provides a brief overview video that explains the service, as well as an even shorter demo video for Duo MobileLITS will provide additional documentation in early September.
