LITS is pleased to announce a new service called Domain of One’s Own, which enables current Bryn Mawr College students, faculty, and staff to host websites and web content on their own subdomain (e.g., We’ve been piloting it over the last year in courses and for faculty and student projects and are now ready to extend access to the entire community.

Much as Virginia Woolf believed a room of one’s own gave women the figurative and literal space necessary to become writers, a Domain of One’s Own can give 21st-century creators the digital space needed to experiment, develop digital competencies, and pursue digital scholarship and creative work.

Domain of One’s Own is a great place to build and host a website, digital research project, or e-portfolio using popular open source tools such as WordPress, Omeka, Scalar or MediaWiki. Advanced users can also use the FTP and file management tools provided to publish and manage web content built outside of these applications.

Please see the Domain of One’s Own service page in our service catalog for more information about how to get started.
