RESOLVED: All Bryn Mawr College Printing Disabled 7/1/2021

Update, 7/16:

LITS has fully restored printing services. You should be able to print as usual from your College computers and from College services.

Updated 7/9 at noon:

LITS has mostly restored printing service. You should be able to print as usual on your College computers. This includes printing to old and new Canons in offices and libraries, printing to other network printers, secure printing, and scanning to your H: drive.

We’re still working through some issues on the server side, and it’s possible printing will be intermittently unavailable over the course of the next week as we continue to restore service fully.

Updated 7/7 at noon:

Microsoft has released preliminary patches for some of our systems and we will be testing those this afternoon. While we do this work, you may find printing is intermittently available and/or print jobs sent since 7/1 might print.

We have not been given a timeframe for full resolution of this critical issue; we are working as quickly as possible with the information we do have to return the campus to some amount of printing service ASAP.

Updated 7/6 at 11am:

Printing, scanning, and copying is still disabled. We do not yet have an ETA for restoring this service. Per Microsoft, “We are working on an update to protect from this vulnerability. We test all updates to ensure quality and compatibility. We will release the fix as soon as it meets quality standards required for broad distribution.”

Effective immediately, LITS is disabling all printing at Bryn Mawr College. Recent news of a print spooler vulnerability requires this emergency action to protect College servers from being compromised.

Scanning on Canons will also be unavailable until we’re able to restore printing.
