LITS Recommends Uninstalling Quicktime for Windows, Security Risk Identified

The Department of Homeland Security has issued a critical warning that Quicktime for Windows is now at risk from viruses and other security threats. Apple will no longer be providing security updates for QuickTime for Windows, leaving this software vulnerable to exploitation.

LITS requests that Bryn Mawr College faculty and staff uninstall Quicktime from College-owned Windows computers as soon as possible. We recommend uninstalling Quicktime from any personal Windows machines as well.

How to uninstall a program:

We are currently evaluating ways to remove the software remotely, and will follow up with additional information shortly. New College-owned Windows machines will not have Quicktime installed, nor will existing machines that are re-imaged.
