New Canaday Library Student Carrel Policy

Canaday Library is implementing a new carrel policy for Fall 2016 based on community feedback. Students will still submit a carrel application online, but they will be able to submit a list of their top 5 choices of carrel, along with any particular requests they’d like to add (not to be near a bathroom, not to have your back to a walkway, etc.)

The library will keep a running list of available carrels, along with carrel descriptions, updated three times a week, for students to choose from at canadaycarrels.blogs.brynmawr.edu. Once a carrel has been assigned, students will be notified via email of the assignment and will have to come to the circulation desk in Canaday to sign a carrel agreement.

Library staff will make their best efforts to honor specific requests, but may not be able to accommodate every specific request due to the limited number of carrels in Canaday. Patrons who require special accommodations with regards to carrel location, etc., should contact Access Services at dalder@brynmawr.edu or 610-526-7351.

Applications will be accepted starting on:

  • August 15: McBrides and students who reside off campus
  • August 29: seniors, graduate students
  • October 1: all other interested students*

* Please note that in the past few years, we have run out of carrels and not every non-senior student who requested one was assigned one.

The carrel application will be available on this page starting on August 15. Requests sent early will be cancelled and need to be re-submitted after the listed date.
