Exhibiting Africa: Ways of Seeing, Knowing, and Showing was organized by students in the 360 course cluster, “The Politics and Poetics of Race,” and offers a fresh look at the College’s collections of African art and artifacts. As part of the 360 cluster, students critiqued the long history of representing Africa in Anthropology exhibitions and art museums, as well as in current exhibitions around Philadelphia. Through a combination of museum studies scholarship and hands-on practical experience in Bryn Mawr Special Collections, these student curators now provide their own compelling take on how we see, know and show African artifacts.
