Warning: New Phishing Attempt 1/16

Please be aware of a recent attempt to gather login, password, and other secure personal or College data from Bryn Mawr College community members.

Be on the lookout for text messages that appear to come from a BMC community member asking you to purchase gift cards. This is a scam; do not respond in any way.

Phishing scams come in many forms. While we work to keep you informed, attacks are increasingly diverse and sophisticated. It’s not possible for us to warn you of every message before you see it. Be cautious and suspicious. If you ever have a question or suspicion, don’t hesitate to contact the Help Desk.

Changes to Office 365 Authentication Behavior

Starting late last week, community members began reporting that they were being asked to sign in to their desktop and mobile applications on a much more frequent basis. This is happening with all Office 365 applications, including Teams and Outlook. We are working with the vendor to assess the login settings and make changes to keep them consistent with expected behavior and campus policies. While we are working, you will need to continue to login with your username and password when prompted. We apologize for the inconvenience.

Please contact the Help Desk with questions: help@brynmawr.edu or 610-526-7440.

Unscheduled VPN Maintenance TONIGHT (1/12) 8pm – 10pm

When you next log in to the VPN client, you may be prompted to update to a newer version of the client.

Thank you for your patience while we complete this critical maintenance. Please contact the Help Desk with any questions at help@brynmawr.edu or 610-526-7440.

Office 365 (including email and Teams) Authentication Updates

As mentioned previously, yesterday’s routine system maintenance included changes to Office 365 logins. This was a necessary update that affected the appearance of the email and Duo login screens.

This morning, community members may find that they need to log in to all of their mobile and desktop Office 365 applications again (including Outlook and Teams). Once you log in, you will be able to use the apps as normal.

If you use Webmail and use the bookmark link in the browser on your College computer, you may need to update the bookmark before you can sign in. You can also navigate to Webmail by typing “webmail.brynmawr.edu” into your browser.

LITS coordinates with divisions across the College to confirm our system maintenance schedule annually. Not all systems will necessarily be unavailable during these maintenance windows; however, you should assume that they will be and plan critical work around the system maintenance schedule. LITS will provide details on the LITS Blog whenever possible. Want to receive reminder emails? Subscribe to System Status posts.

LITS implemented this practice in June 2015 to reduce overall system downtime, to improve the security and reliability of College systems and networks, and to maintain compliance with industry and vendor support requirements and best practices.

The PeopleSoft patch testing schedule is determined by our vendor and does not follow the system maintenance schedule.

Action Required: Update Chrome Browsers and all Apple OSes

Apple and Google have released security updates for some new zero-day vulnerabilities that have been discovered. Though these updates will be automatically pushed by Apple and Google as devices are rebooted and browsers are restarted, it’s crucial for all community members to allow these updates to go through by restarting their browsers and rebooting their devices.
