Reminder: Requesting Items for Fall 2021 Course Reserves

To place a book or video on reserve, please fill out the book reserve and/or video reserve form for the library you wish your reserves to be in, located in the LITS service catalog: https://td.brynmawr.edu/TDClient/Requests/ServiceDet?ID=279 Please note that you must submit a request in order for an item to go on reserve for your course.

The library will accept requests for required course texts and videos from faculty, and you will have the option to indicate a preference for either digital or physical formats. For physical books, we will obtain one copy per 20 students enrolled in the course. Please note that while we will make every effort to acquire items in the requested format, not all titles are available as e-books and not all e-books are available for library use. If you request an e-book and we cannot acquire it, we will acquire a print copy of the book.

Please include all e-books in your request even if you already see them in Tripod. We “rent” and do not “own” many of the e-book titles in Tripod, and books we don’t own sometimes disappear without warning. Unless we purchase the book (as an e-book or in print), we can’t guarantee it will be available for the entire semester. Your subject librarian would be happy to advise on resources for your courses (https://www.brynmawr.edu/lits/about/staff/library-subject-liaisons)

All reserve requests are processed in the order in which they are received. All items will be kept on reserve until the end of the semester, unless otherwise requested. Please note that if the Library needs to purchase or recall an item, it may not arrive in time for the first day of classes.

Completed: WordPress Upgrade 7/22 7-8pm

Last night, LITS performed a necessary WordPress upgrade between 7pm and 8pm. During that time, community members may have experienced a brief service interruption; the upgrade went smoothly and as planned, and WordPress is available.

Reminder: Update Adobe Creative Cloud Software

Recently, Adobe released information about a security vulnerability in some of its software, including Acrobat and Reader. In order to patch against this vulnerability, all community members will need to update the Adobe software on their computers as soon as possible.

In order to update Adobe software on your College computer, please follow the instructions on TechDocs.

Community members should also update Adobe on their personal machines.

Reminder: Campus Network & Services Unavailable 7/21 8pm-midnight

Network connectivity will be interrupted on Wednesday, July 21 from 8:00 p.m. – midnight.

Community members who are on campus will not be able to connect to external services including Office 365.

Community members who are off campus will not be able to log in to campus services including Pulse Secure.

Swarthmore will be taking the Tri-College network down to complete necessary maintenance during this time.  Equipment will be replaced so that future unplanned outages can be avoided.

RESOLVED: All Bryn Mawr College Printing Disabled 7/1/2021

Update, 7/16:

LITS has fully restored printing services. You should be able to print as usual from your College computers and from College services.

Updated 7/9 at noon:

LITS has mostly restored printing service. You should be able to print as usual on your College computers. This includes printing to old and new Canons in offices and libraries, printing to other network printers, secure printing, and scanning to your H: drive.

We’re still working through some issues on the server side, and it’s possible printing will be intermittently unavailable over the course of the next week as we continue to restore service fully.

Updated 7/7 at noon:

Microsoft has released preliminary patches for some of our systems and we will be testing those this afternoon. While we do this work, you may find printing is intermittently available and/or print jobs sent since 7/1 might print.

We have not been given a timeframe for full resolution of this critical issue; we are working as quickly as possible with the information we do have to return the campus to some amount of printing service ASAP.


Updated 7/6 at 11am:

Printing, scanning, and copying is still disabled. We do not yet have an ETA for restoring this service. Per Microsoft, “We are working on an update to protect from this vulnerability. We test all updates to ensure quality and compatibility. We will release the fix as soon as it meets quality standards required for broad distribution.”


Effective immediately, LITS is disabling all printing at Bryn Mawr College. Recent news of a print spooler vulnerability requires this emergency action to protect College servers from being compromised.

Scanning on Canons will also be unavailable until we’re able to restore printing.

Emergency Moodle Maintenance — Friday July 16, 11am

Yesterday, Moodle released updated versions to address security vulnerabilities. Bryn Mawr’s version of Moodle is one of the affect versions, and requires emergency maintenance. Moodle will be upgraded around 11am this morning. The upgrade should last less than 10 minutes, and people who are already logged in should experience minimal disruption during that time.

RESOLVED: Access to VPN Web Portal (ingress.brynmawr.edu) Now Available

UPDATE, 7/16: Access to the VPN web portal at ingress.brynmawr.edu has been restored. Community members can again access their home directories and network file shares from there.

Beginning this evening (Thursday, May 14th) access to the VPN web portal at ingress.brynmawr.edu will again be unavailable while we perform emergency maintenance to address an underlying server issue. Community members can still use the Pulse Secure client to access their home directories and network file shares from off-campus.
LITS is working to restore functionality as quickly as possible. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

Phone System Unavailable 7/24 8am-8pm

The College’s phone and voicemail system will be unavailable on Saturday, July 24 from 8:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m. Our phone vendor will be performing a major system upgrade during this time.

During this outage, it will not be possible to make or receive calls on campus, including from one campus phone to another, and voicemail will be disabled.
